Canaves Oia Suites | A Romantic Greek Elope

"...a romantic wedding in Canaves Oia Suites, with a spectacular view!

I never miss a chance to repeat how fond I am of elopements, so let me say it once more: I simply love elopements and I absolutely enjoy shooting them! It’s so touchingly romantic to share such an experience with a sweet young couple like Annie & David, who traveled all the way from the United States to elope in Greece. They chose Santorini, one of the most popular Greek islands, legendary for its beauty and its fascinating historical background. I don’t think I have ever met a couple so much in love and so genuinely thrilled about their elopement. And as excitement is contagious, you can imagine how delighted I was to be with them…

Cute Wedding in Canaves Oia Suites

Wedding tradition holds that the groom must not see his bride in her wedding dress before the ceremony, but in this case Annie had not seen David’s attire either. They just wanted to surprise each other with the clothes they had selected for that special day; and they did! They couldn’t stop admiring each other and making all sorts of enthusiastic comments about each other’s choices. And the truth is that they were both impressive: Annie looked stunning in her classical minimalistic wedding dress and David, in suspenders, bow tie, white shirt and trousers, was very elegant indeed.

The ceremony took place in Canaves Oia Suites, one of the most beautiful venues I have ever been to, with spellbinding views of the caldera and the volcano. You could see almost the whole island from that little balcony over the Aegean! After the ceremony, the private chauffeur hired by the couple drove us to some of the best locations of Santorini (which happened to be the elopement photographer’s favourite places too, by the way). At the end of the shooting, the newlyweds climbed to a very high spot and released white balloons in the air. We watched them fly against a clear blue sky, adding a celebratory note to a wonderful ceremony, the white color symbolizing purity, love, joy and completeness.

Wedding Decorations

Everything had been planned perfectly thanks to Maria, the wedding planner from Tie the Knot (you can actually see her blowing a candle, after the romantic dinner for two) –from the great idea of black and white stripes both on the carpet and on the charmingly set table to the elopement floral decoration and the little cakes with the couple’s names that replaced the ordinary table sitting cards. Another original detail was the bridal bouquet, which consisted of only one flower: an amazing peony. If I was asked to describe this elopement with four words, I would use the words Fresh, Beautiful, Simple, and Stylish –words that also happen to reflect the philosophy of life of Anny, who is a very talented designer.

Dearest Annie & David, your elopement was a milestone for me and I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to share it with you. I hope your elopement photos will always remind you of that big day, which fortunately turned out to be perfect. Nothing, not even the Greek summer heat, could ruin it! I wish you from the bottom of my heart a lifetime of happiness and love. And I sincerely hope we meet again someday!
