Sofia & Kostas | Wedding in Halkidiki. Greece

I don’t know if there is such a thing as a magical recipe for a perfect wedding, but I do know that, if there was one, the necessary ingredients would definitely be a couple in love, a relaxed atmosphere of positive energy, the right blend of guests (that is dear friends and loving relatives), a beautiful scenery, a well chosen venue, and lots of music and dancing. Well, this wedding in Chalkidiki certainly had all these elements – and some more: a fascinating combination of sea and mountain, plus a rather unexpected combination of sunshine and rain…
When I set out for Chalkidiki for the shooting of Sophia & Costas’ wedding I had no idea what I was about to experience. They both live in Lausanne, but they had planned to get married in Chalkidiki, Greece. I must say that Sophia and Costas are one of the calmest and most easy-going couples I have ever met. This is ideal for a photographer of course, as it makes his job plain sailing! I was watching them through my camera lens and I couldn’t believe they were so laid-back. I kept asking them how they managed to remain so calm at all times, but I haven’t figured it out yet (if I ever find out their secret, I promise I’ll let you know ).
The varied, scenic landscape, combined with the couple’s wonderful mood, allowed me to take some of the best pictures in my destination wedding photography career. The favourable weather on the wedding day and the traditional elements of the wedding ceremony ensured more amazing shots. The wedding party was a terrific success. There were moments when I felt I was a spectator watching a movie. There was live Balkan music playing in the background and the rousing sounds of the trumpets and the clarinet made everybody feel like dancing. Then it suddenly started to rain. For an awkward second I looked at the couple; we locked eyes and we silently agreed, “Let’s do it!” And the next moment they were dancing to the music of their favourite song outside, in the rain! Oooh, my heartbeat went crazy… It was so romantic – pure magic! You will see what I mean if you take a look at their wedding photos.
I would really like to give you some idea of what this 3-day experience in Chalkidiki was like, but I’m afraid words are just not enough to describe my feelings, so I’d rather let my pictures tell you the story instead.
